Fix long lines in automatically generated subtitles
Automatically generated subtitles can have long lines or awkward breaks. Upload a subtitle file or paste your text, set a character limit, and review the results before using them in your video editor.
SRTBuddy works on subtitle text. You still control font size, caption placement and text-box width in your editor.
Choose a character limit for your layout
Start with 32 characters per line and adjust it to your caption area. A narrow layout may need shorter lines; a wider one may allow more text. Character count is a length limit, not a measurement of the rendered caption width.
Line breaks should keep related words readable together. Add names, technical terms and fixed expressions to Keep phrases together, one per line, then review the result. A word or protected phrase longer than your limit requires a larger limit or a different phrase setting.
Does this change the words in my subtitles?
Line breaking does not rewrite or correct your text. You can choose whether to keep punctuation and protect fixed phrases before processing.
How many characters should I use?
The English page starts at 32 characters per line. Use a shorter limit for a narrow caption area, or increase it when longer words or phrases do not fit. Spaces within a line count toward the limit.
What happens to SRT timestamps?
When you download a formatted SRT file, each line becomes a separate subtitle cue. The original duration is divided between the new cues in proportion to their character counts. This timing is estimated, so check it against the audio in your editor.
SRTBuddy supports English, Chinese and mixed-language subtitles. Import the downloaded SRT file into a compatible editor, or copy the plain text into your workflow.
